Carsten Hein was born in 1979 and lives in Berlin. He studied jazz and pop music at the ArtEZ Institute of the arts in Arnhem (Netherlands) and afterwards arts and media administration at the
Freie Universität in Berlin. He is a versatile bassplayer and shared the stage or studio with Ivy Quainoo, Julia Marcell, Ari Benjamin Meyers, Neneh Cherry, Ladi6, Mellow Mark, Martin Jondo, Skew
Siskin, Nosliw, Ruffcats, Tulp, Mr Zarko, Rhani Krija, Kristiina Tuomi, Ali Keta, Zo Knarr, Marcus Klossek, Dirk Bell and many others. Concerts and tours brought him to most european countries
and north africa.
In his own projects he uses the bass combined with electronics also as one source for sound explorations. As a musician and composer he worked for theaters like Schauspiel Frankfurt, Ballhaus Naunynstraße Berlin, Polly Maggoo Amsterdam, Toneelgroep Oostpol Arnhem and others. He also produced music for radio and television stations as well as for brands and companies. He won several jazz prices as a bandmember or soloist (Jugend Jazzt, Young Jazzaward Tübingen, Nujazzprijs Dordrecht).
Currently his main focus beside his work as a side man for pop and jazz artists is an instrumental album he composed for a new formed quintett. It will be released in 2018.
